Jaritza's Story

“As a parent, the last thing you want to hear is that your child most likely won’t be able to live a normal life. The only thing I am sure of is that I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure that my daughter receives every little bit of help she can.”
In July of this year, Jaritza rushed her youngest daughter, Adelyn, to the ER. Her 18-month-old was experiencing a series of seizures. The doctors were able to help her and diagnosed her with pachygyria, a rare brain condition, as well as epilepsy, which came as a side effect of her condition. This is likely a lifelong condition for Adelyn.
Adelyn’s development has been delayed due to the condition; she’s been assessed at an 8- or 9-month-old level of development. Not only that, but despite her doctor’s intervention, her seizures are getting more frequent and worse. Jaritza and her husband now have to balance earning an income in their careers with being there to care for their family.
Adelyn receives several services including early intervention, physical, occupational and speech therapy. She also receives the highest dose of anti-seizure medicine that she can take for a child her size. Jaritza and her husband have had to miss a lot of time at work to care for Adelyn and have fallen behind on their bills. Thankfully, with your help, we’re able to support them as their care for their resilient daughter.
