Maddy's Story
Total Assistance: $10,000
Maddy is a single mom who has seen many challenges on her long road to sobriety. The last year has been particularly challenging. Starting in October of last year, after she had been ten months sober, she heard that her abusive ex-boyfriend was being released from jail where he’d been because of domestic violence against Maddy. This led to a relapse.
Living in a domestic violence shelter at the time, she so afraid for her life that she locked herself and her son in a room and wouldn’t open for shelter staff. They had to call DCFS because they feared for her son’s safety.
As a result of that incident and her relapse, Maddy faced a difficult choice. She decided to put her son in foster care as she got herself back on track. She went into detox then inpatient treatment, before moving into a sober living facility.
Driven by her love for her son, she remained sober for 7 months before reuniting with him. She had a stable job and home, then COVID-19 hit. Maddy was laid off and is struggling with bills, while her son, who has a developmental delay, is struggling with e-learning. Thanks to your support, we’re pleased to help Maddy stay on her positive path and face these challenges.
