Rosa's Story
Total Assistance: $12,490
“With him getting bigger and heavier (plus) the weight of the chair, it’s just getting harder for me to operate. I have had almost two fatalities losing my balance and almost dropping Lorenzo down the stairs.”
Rosa works part-time as a pharmacy technician but her primary job is being a mother and caregiver to her son, Lorenzo, who’s been diagnosed with cerebral palsy and quadriplegia. He requires a Scalamobil to move in and out of the house. However, the Scalamobil has become increasingly difficult to operate as Lorenzo has grown bigger and heavier.
Rosa had accidents and safety concerns with the device, and even wrenched her back using it. Lorenzo wasn’t able to leave the house for eight days while she recovered. She worries that nobody else knows how to operate it in case of an emergency.
A vertical platform lift would allow for safer and easier transportation of Lorenzo in and out of the house. This would relieve stress and anxiety for Rosa and allow other family members to help with Lorenzo's transportation. A vertical platform lift would also enable Lorenzo to enjoy the outdoors with his grandfather, something he loves to do. Thanks to the support of our donors, we’re able to help the family get this necessary equipment installed.
